5 Ways To Be Mindful About The Present.

These days, living moment-by-moment seems impossible, with everything that’s going on in the world. Also, with all the technology we could ever want at our fingertips, sometimes we delve into a world of make-believe or whatever people on the internet want us to see. Now, more than ever, it’s important to notice what’s right in front of us and how essential it is to take care of ourselves by staying in the present in various ways.

I want to touch on what being mindful means to me. I’m not an expert, and I’ll never claim to be, but what I do know is as I’ve gotten older, time is moving too fast, and I need to get back to those days as a child when I lived each moment to the next.

Living in the present

Living in the present can mean many things; it can mean putting down our phones more often, being at peace with our past, or even letting the future come as it is. Being comfortable with what’s available to us right now and being mindful of those aspects is more valuable than we’ll ever know.

Be present with your loved ones

Over the past couple of years, we’ve learned that loved ones are precious, and we should never take advantage of those who belong in our lives. Spending time with our loved ones is something we should treasure instead of putting them in the background and knowing they’ll always be there.

Practice putting your phone done more and having an uninterrupted conversation with them, and maybe, you’ll learn more about them and create a tighter bond.

Be present with your body

When life gets busy, the first thing we forget to focus on is our health, which can cause further distress down the line. I’m not saying you have to eat vegan and exercise every day (unless you want to), but keeping a consistent regime in your life creates balance and will make you feel better; mentally and physically.

Also, it sounds kind of corny, but if you aren’t feeling well, stop and figure out what’s going on. Being mindful of what your body is trying to tell you is crucial, especially as you grow older.

Be present with your food

Have you ever eaten a meal so mouth-watering you’ve wanted to savor it and slow down? Me too. Even though every meal might not be as tasty as the last, it’s essential to take the time to focus on what you’re doing and regroup.

When you were growing up, did your parents ever make you sit at the table, and participate in, what seemed like, at the time, meaningless conversation? It was their way of being present, focusing on the task at hand.

Now think about the last time you’ve sat down without distractions and just had a meal. It’s hard, isn’t it?

Be present with your mind

The most important one of them all is how you treat your mind. Worrying about what you said five years ago or five minutes ago isn’t going to help you. At all. Worrying about the future and what it holds is somewhat important, but in the now, there’s nothing you can do about it. Overthinking is one of those pastimes that causes unannounced anxiety that sets a person back and throws them off balance.

Living in the moment and enjoying the things you can control *right now* is how you’re able to let go of regrets in the past and prepare for the future ahead of you.
