Working from home? Try these tips to stay in style.
These days, putting on a clean pair of sweatpants might be considered “dressing up,” but in all reality, I think we’re all getting tired of rotating our leisurewear and reminiscing of the times we wore jeans, a nice shirt, and maybe, a chunky heel...or is it just me? Working from home has taken me to new levels in fashion, and frankly, I don’t even think I’d call it fashion. Sure I’ve accumulated a few extra pairs of leggings I could pair with a cute oversized top, but what’s the difference when I work from home?
Then I had an epiphany; I still want to feel good and want to feel like I’m putting myself together like I used to (sigh), so I went ahead and gathered some tips to stay in style, even if some of our nine to five’s may look a little different these days.
Tip #1: Fall in line with a “work mode”
I found the first tip via a Vogue article. You know, just the mecca of style and pose, never forget “work mode” attire. It’s as simple as throwing on a pair of cute flats or slipping on a dressier shirt but maybe leaving the sweats on. It’s still comforting over style in some ways, right? Perhaps you haven’t applied lipstick or mascara in over a year, so maybe dig out that dried-out mascara tube, and try it on for size.
Tip #2: But give yourself a day or two to slack off
With your apparel, that is. Sure it’s nice to dress up and play the part, but giving yourself one or two days to dress down is just the same as “Casual Friday’s.” No one wants to be sitting eight hours in tight jeans again, and the world is crazy right now. I think we all deserve a little comfort once and while, eh?
Tip #3: Accessorize
Over the years, I’ve realized it’s all about the accessories. It can highlight an outfit and take it to the next level, so why not add a little bling to your everyday garb? These days, wearing a few rings, painting your nails, or even a pair of earrings can make a load of difference and can be a huge confidence booster.
Tip #4: Dress for your mood
I recently read an article posted by Today that mentioned dressing based on your mood. Today’s fashion is all about dressing for you, and basically, anything goes. It’s a great time to experiment with different trends and dress based on the day. If you’re happy, try a pop of color to enhance the mood, or if you’re feeling down, grab your coziest sweater or favorite tee, and rock it. Approaching each day with a confident attitude is essential, and complementing it with a piece of clothing goes one step further.
Tip #5: Invest in the basics
Money might be tight right now, or maybe you’re saving up for greener pastures, but if you look in the right places, like H&M, Target, or ASOS, you can strike a deal. Investing in basics freshens up your wardrobe, you’re able to pair different pieces with one another, and you’re not breaking the bank.
Feeling good shouldn’t go out the door just because you work from home; it’s crucial in every aspect of life. Taking one of these tips and applying it to your wardrobe game will elevate your confidence, which is incredibly important in times like these.
